Newborn Must Haves

newborn must have, newborn essentials, baby must have, baby essential

For a first time mom like me, being prepared for when V arrived was beyond important and to be honest a pretty stressful task.  Between all the crazy variety of items you see out there and the endless things you read you’ll need for when baby comes home, it can be super overwhelming.  I have to be honest that I bought a lot of things that I haven’t even used yet, and am not even sure I will – and then there where plenty of things I thought were going to be super useless and ended up being my go to items daily.  You’ll never know what kind of baby your little one will be and what you’ll find necessary on a daily basis.

To help other moms out I’ve put together a little list of my must have items for the first few months.  These are the things that I honestly can’t live without and don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have them.  Trust me, a lot of them were surprises to me and a bunch were things that I found out I needed after little one was here. They are my Newborn Must Haves!

Hope this helps!

Sleep Time

…or in other words the time you get to either sleep, clean the house, clean yourself or just veg on the couch and remember your name! For my little fussy one getting her to fall asleep has been a huge huge task from day one, and I still have yet to master the art of putting her to sleep.  These items however, have helped a lot in this sometime stressful time.

Halo Bassinest – This has been of huge importance to me.  I wanted V to sleep in our room for the first few months so having a bassinet was super important.  Little did I know I was going to end up having a c-section, so this Halo Bassinest was God sent! It swivels and turns 360 degrees, making it super easy for me to maneuver her in the middle of the night when I couldn’t really get up and move around myself in those first few weeks.  A little plus is that plays music, vibrates, has a breast-feeding timer and a nightlight (to be honest I don’t use any of those features very much, but you might!) I also love that the sides of the bassinet are mesh. V moves around a lot at night, even if she’s swaddled, so having the mesh surroundings gave me a huge peace of mind!  I doesn’t however come with the fitted sheet, which I find pretty important – so buy a couple.  I got 3 and wash them often!

Aden + Anis Serenity Star Clock – Perfect nightlight for the room.  I honestly love this little guy.  It gives my room just the right amount of  brightness so I can see the princess.  Besides it having a great white noise and breastfeeding timer features, my favorite thing is that it lets you know if the room is too hot or too cold.  The start changes from white to blue when the temperature is cold and from white to red when its hot.  Temperature control has been a real struggle for me when it comes to the little one, I never know if she’s cold or hot, so the star definitely helps me keep it at just the right range.

SwaddleMe Blanket – V is quite a mover and has quite a little personality, so swaddling her the old fashion way with a swaddle blanket is nearly impossible, not to mention the few times I can actually get her swaddle she makes me feel like an idiot by unswaddling herself in like 2 seconds, lol.  I was about to give up on swaddling when a friend introduced me to the SwaddleMe Blankets…I’ve now won the swaddle battle! They are super easy to use, and there is no way V is getting out of this swaddle.  She sleeps amazingly well in it – its been a night-time hero.  Now, if you can get your little angel swaddled the old fashion way, there was nothing better than the  Aden + Anais Bamboo Swaddle Blanket.  They are great!

Carter’s Zip-Up Onesies – These babies are a life saver in the middle of the night – no looking for buttons with one eye half-open! Just unzip, change, zip…honestly couldn’t be faster and easier.  Only problem with this one is that it’s a little hard to check if little one went number 1 or 2, but that why I only put it on her at night.  She wakes up, I change her, feed her and put her back down to sleep. These little guys come in a variety of super cute patterns, Strawberry, Bunny, GirrafesSeahorseIce CreamLittle Bees – not to mention they are a great price!

 Bath Time

Puj Flyte Infant Tub – Let’s just say I tried a lot of little tubs before I landed on this one, and this was by far the easiest and best way to bathe my little one so far! There are way fancier infant tubs out there that will have your eyes sparkling and believing they are amazing – trust me, I was that mom.  It took me about .2 seconds to figure out they were completely useless or way to complicated for a little one.  Puj Flyte Infant Tub was a breeze! I didn’t think bath time could be as easy as it was when I finally used this little gem. Super simple…place it in the sink and let you little one actually enjoy bath time.  My princess finally did, and so did I!

Baby Buddy Natural Bath Sponge – I just loved how soft this sponge gets and how gentle it is on the baby’s skin.  Absorbs just the right amount of water/shampoo and its all natural – so doesn’t get any better than that!

Honest Company Shampoo & Body Wash – I’ve used everything Honest Company so far! Diapers, wipes, lotion, body oil, rash cream, dish soap (to wash baby bottles), and laundry detergent and love all their products.  This little shampoo & body wash smells amazing, is super gentle on babies’ skin, and a little goes a long way.  I love it!

Aden + Anis Washcloth – A must to keep baby warm during bath time (I place the cloth over her belly when she’s in the water) and perfect for a quick daily clean up in the mornings.  Super gentle material!

Feeding Time

Dr Brown’s Natural Flow Bottles – So my little one has acid reflux, which led to many spit ups and crying.  Not to mention she is a furious eater, and when I say that I mean I have literally .2 seconds from the time she is hungry to feed her before she goes completely insane crying. It’s almost comical! After doing a lot, and I mean a lot of research on baby bottles, Dr Brown’s Natural Flow was by far the best option for my little one – specially given her eating habits and reflux.  This bottle forces her to take her time, and the system it has helps tremendously with spit ups and taking in too much air.  A must have for me!

Aden + Anis Burpy Bib – Best burpy bib I own – by far.  Absorbs spit ups just right, not leaving the bib super soaked, its soft against her skin and the patters are just super cute! 🙂

Skip Hop Splash Bottle Rack – Cleaning baby bottles must be the most annoying baby task ever.  Especially since my bottles come with quite a few little parts. However, this drying rack is perfect. Fits plenty of bottles and has room for all the little extras too.

4moms Mamaroo Bouncer Seat – She lovessss this bouncer seat, she can rock on it for a long time and it’s one of the few times she’s actually quiet and entertained on her own. With so many different settings it’s almost impossible for her to get bored.  Place it in a room you use a lot (as it’s not as easy to move around as most bouncer seats) and your angel will get a lot of use out of this one.  She’s even fallen asleep on her own in it….and that’s pretty much a miracle in my home! Oh, and don’t forget the infant insert, it’s a must for the little ones!

Fisher Price My Little Sweetie Deluxe Bouncer – A perfect and can’t live without item for sure!!! This bouncer is super light and easy to move around the house.  So when I’m alone with her this goes with me everywhere!

Do you have any must have items that I didn’t mention? Would love to know what you couldn’t/can’t live without in these first few months.

Little Black Bump Dress

This is my last pregnant look on the blog and I have to say It’s been an amazing journey the past 9 months.  It’s been full of #bumpstyle looks and me trying to look cute and fashionable while my body was going through the biggest and most amazing transformation ever.  I’m excited to be at the end of my pregnancy and embark on the next big journey of motherhood and trying to get my body back to normal.  This last look is a perfect little black dress look that I would totally wear for Valentine’s Day if I was still pregnant – hopefully I won’t be! haha.  The dress is from H&M, simple and flowy, but my favorite part of it all are the maternity pantyhose from Blanqi! How cute are they!? Blanqi has a ton of maternity pantyhose in all kinds of super cute designs that will make any simple outfit have a little hint of sexy.  Hope you guys like it!

Cardigan Loving

Happy Thursday Loves! I wanted to share with you guys this super chill look that I just loved throughout my pregnancy. Theres is nothing more comfortable during the last few months of pregnancy then a nice pair of leggings – especially when you are super swollen (as I am) and can’t even wear a watch without leaving a huge mark on your arm.  I just love the cuteness of leggings with a nice cardigan like this one from Heavenly Bump during these colder months.  Pair it with my favorite maternity top from BLANQI and these super fun moto booties and I’m good to go anywhere! Comfy and cute!

What To Pack For Labor at The Hospital

what to pack for the hospital, what to pack for labor, what to pack for delivery, what baby needs at the hospital, what mom needs at the hospital, what mom needs for labor

Hi loves, so I’m finally all packed up and ready to go to the hospital when little princess decides its time. It honestly took me quite a little while to figure out exactly what to pack for labor at the hospital – and I’m sure I’m over packing for the occasion.  However, as a first time mommy I want to be sure I’m prepared and don’t have to send the husband or the mom’s running around getting things I might have forgotten.  From talking to a lot of moms and doing some research online I came up with what I thought was super necessary to have in the minimum 2 days that the husband, baby and I will be in the hospital.  Here’s my little list, and I hope it can help new mommies like me for the occasion.  If you guys think I’m missing something PLEASE let me know.

For Baby

what to pack for the hospital, what to pack for labor, what to pack for delivery, what baby needs at the hospital, what mom needs at the hospital, what mom needs for labor

  • Swaddle Blankets from Aden + Anais.  I have ton of these for when she arrives, and as much as I know the hospital provides swaddle blankets,  I want to make sure I know how to swaddle her properly using the ones I have at home.
  • Newborn Diapers from The Honest Company.  I also know my hospital does provide diapers, but I really want her to only use the diapers I bought from The Honest Company since they are free of chemicals, chlorine and many other harmful little things.  And how cute are they!!! Ohmy!
  • Baby Wipes from The Honest Company.  Now, my hospital does not provide baby wipes and asked for us to bring our own. Check with your hospital to make sure what they do and don’t provide for the baby.
  • Diaper Cream, not pictured – also from The Honest Company
  • Scratch Mittens from Satsuma and Safety 1st.  Super important to have scratch mittens for the little one.  Since they are so little it’s hard to trim their nails right away, so the scratch mittens are a must to protect them from scratching their little face.  I’m bringing two different brands just in case one of them doesn’t fit her hands.  Both brands are great and from my research should work fine, but I’d rather be prepared.
  • Going home outfit from Little Me.  It was so hard for me to find a newborn sized little going home outfit that I liked.  This one from Little Me is so adorable, I just love it.  I’m also bringing a 0-3 month sized outfit, also from Little Me, just in case she’s a little bigger then we are expecting.
  • Hats I’m bringing quite a few, but my favorite is the one I got from Melondipity.
  • Hairbands, also from various brands.  From the 3D ultrasound we did, it showed she was going to have quite a bit of hair, so why not bring cute little hairbands…they don’t take up much space anyways. 🙂
  • Socks, because baby socks are adorable and I want to be sure my little girl’s feet don’t get cold.
  • Touch Ink Pad from Pearled. I know the hospital will do this for you a day or so after the baby is born, so I figured I’d get her little footprint out of the way and as soon as possible.

For Mom

what to pack for the hospital, what to pack for labor, what to pack for delivery, what baby needs at the hospital, what mom needs at the hospital, what mom needs for labor

  • Cardigan from Forever21.  I wore this cardigan a lot during pregnancy and figured I’d take it with me for going home or just going to get a snack downstairs.
  • Leggings from Destination Maternity (they have been my favorite) and a  Shirt also for going home.  Everyone recommends you still take maternity clothes from when you were about 6 months pregnant.  That big belly will go down, but will take a little longer for you to be able to fit into your post pregnancy outfits. So stick to maternity for a little while longer.
  • Socks, your feet will be freezing in the hospital (so they say), so bring a few nice and comfy socks you like.
  • Pajamas from Target.  I bought some cheap pajamas I won’t mind getting dirty to take with me.  Between blood, bandages, and other hospital things I was told by several people to not take anything you really like to the hospital.  So I’m keeping my nice pajamas at home and taking these from Target that I won’t mind getting dirty or having to throw away (worst case).  They both open in the front for easy breastfeeding and are slip-ons to make it easier to take care of bandages etc.
  • Flip Flops from Havaianas.  Because you want to wear flip flops when you take a shower at the hospital.  You just do!
  • Slippers from Target.  Slippers are super important for walking around the hospital, going to the nursery etc.  And you definitely want to throw these away once you get home.  I mean, hospitals cary so many different bacterias that you just don’t want to be wearing the same slippers at home and dragging yucky things around.  These slippers were $9, so definitely worth the price, and they are super warm and comfy!
  • Paperwork.  Make sure you gather all the paperwork you will for checking in at the hospital and keep it in your car with your suitcase.  I’m my case I have my birth plan, paperwork my doctor gave me, my pre-registration hospital paperwork, information to give my nurse about the Cord Bank for the baby and also information regarding my placenta since I will be having it made into placenta pills.  So put together whatever it is you need the nurses to know –  you probably won’t want to explain yourself when you are in labor.
  • Ziplock Bag. Why you ask? Well, we have a dog and from my research I found that one of the best ways for your dog to prepare for the arrival of baby is to have the nurse put the cloth she used for the first bath of the baby into a zip lock bag.  I’m then going to have my mom come to my house and slowly open the bag so Lola (my dog) can smell the cloth and know the baby has arrived.  They suggest you leave the cloth near your dog so it can get used to the baby’s scent.
  • Headbands, because I doubt I’ll have time to make my hair look pretty. So I figured this is the best way to look presentable to anyone visiting. 🙂
  • Maternity Band from Belly Bandit.  I know I’m being super optimistic bringing this, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to put this on pretty soon to start getting everything back into place.
  • Nursing Top, I hear these are pretty essential to make your nursing experience a little easier.
  • Undies form Destination Maternity, not the cutest ones in the world, but these post pregnancy undies are a must. They must have a back…no thongs ladies.  Sorry.
  • Nursing Bras, I got a couple of comfy ones also from Destination Maternity. However, don’t go and get too many because I know once the milk comes in you’ll probably need an entire cup size bigger…if not more.
  • Robe from Target.  I’m a sucker for robes, I love love love them and I know I’ll be using them a lot at the hospital and I don’t want to walk around in my pajamas. I don’t want to bring my favorite robe from Barefoot Dreams since I don’t want to get it dirty, so I opted for the one from Target, which is actually amazing!

Toiletries For Mom

what to pack for the hospital, what to pack for labor, what to pack for delivery, what baby needs at the hospital, what mom needs at the hospital, what mom needs for labor

I love everything travel sized and always have them at home for traveling. I’m the queen of saving samples!

  • Deodorant
  • Nipple Balm from Mama Mio
  • Dry Shampoo from Drybar, who knows what my hair will look like the day I go into labor…so I’d rather be safe and have this dry shampoo so I can try to look human again after delivery.
  • Shampoo and Conditioner from Drybar
  • Bottom Spray from New Mama for after delivery
  • Hair ties, clips and pins.
  • Make up Remover. With all the crying that will be going on, I can see this being a must.
  • Nursing Pads from Medela
  • Lip Balm from Sugar (for a little hint of color) and from Nine Naturals
  • Stretch Mark Cream (not pictured) from Nine Naturals
  • Perfume from Coco Chanel Mademoiselle
  • Travel Size Body Wash and Body Lotion
  • Face Wash from Philosophy
  • Mouthwash/ Toothbrush/Toothpaste
  • Sample Face Creams from La Mer, that way I don’t have to take my big one that I can’t live without!
  • Makeup (not pictured). I just packed a little makeup bag of some of my little favorite things and am keeping it in my purse.  I figured the last thing I’ll want to do when It’s time to head to the hospital is put a little make up bag together.

For Dad

what to pack for the hospital, what to pack for labor, what to pack for delivery, what baby needs at the hospital, what mom needs at the hospital, what mom needs for labor

For my husband I packed practical and comfy things. So he can look presentable to anybody visiting but still be as comfortable as possible while sleeping in a most likely very uncomfortable couch.  Not pictured here are a pair of jeans and sneakers that I’ll be leaving in a separate bag in my car, just in case we have to rush to the hospital while my husband is still in his suit.

  • Comfy shirts he can wear to sleep, he made me switch these nike ones for his favorite Lululemon shirts which are a little softer and more comfortable.
  • Camera/ Camera Charger/Phone Charger
  • Socks
  • Flip Flops (not pictured) for showering
  • Toiletries
  • iPad and/or Laptop (not pictured).  That way my husband can still do some work and keep his sanity while we are in the hospital.
  • Sweater from Lululemon.  His favorite sweater, he can wear to sleep or just with jeans when people are visiting.
  • Pants from Nike so he can sleep in.
  • Shirts for during the day when people are visiting.
  • Protein Bars from PowerCrunch which he LOVES.  These are actually super important for the Labor/Delivery period.  The process can take super long and I know he’s not going to want to leave my side to go grab something to eat – especially because I won’t be able to eat anything either.  So packing these protein bars will keep him from starving.

Not pictured –

  • Cash for valet or vending machines
  • Quarters for vending machines
  • Pillow for Mom.  I hear the hospital pillows are horrible, so was told by several moms to just grab your own and bring it.
  • Car seat from Maxi Cosi.  It took me a long time to come to a decision as to which car seat I wanted to buy. I decided on the Maxi Cosi Prezi Infant Car seat.  This one was by far the one I liked the most after doing a lot of research and bugging the crap out of the sales people at Buy Buy Baby.  Make sure you have your car seat all set up in your car.  They won’t let you leave the hospital with the baby without a proper car seat.
  • Car seat Blanket from Little Giraffe
  • Nursing Pillow from Boppy so I can start practicing feeding her using this pillow.

Sounds like a lot right? But honestly once you pack everything it’s not that bad. I hope this little list can help some new time mommies like myself.  And please let me know if you guys think I might be forgetting something essential.  Now it’s just a waiting game for the little princess!

Baby Valentina, we are ready for you!

Green Beaded Kimono and Rocksbox Offer

Hi loves! So I’ve finally arrived at my last month of pregnancy and it’s really insane how quickly time has gone by.  Since my little girl will be here in the next few weeks or so, the husband and I have been trying to squeeze in as many little romantic dates as possible.  This look is super simple and an easy date night one for an extremely pregnant, almost ready to pop lady like me.  All basics with a touch of fun.  I loved this Kimono top I found at H&M, the color is beautiful for this time of the year and the beading on it is pretty spectacular.  It’s a piece I can wear now and easily wear when I’m no longer pregnant.  My black maternity top is from Blanqi and it has honestly been such a life saver during my pregnancy and especially towards the end of it.   This top is stretchy in all the right places and it’s just long enough so I can wear it with leggings or jeans without showing my belly and still feeling comfortable – because trust me, those awesome tops you love now won’t cover your entire belly after a while.  My super cute earrings are from Rocksbox and if you don’t know what that is yet you are missing out! Check out their incredible jewelry program and get your first month free by using code “anandaxoxo” (offer ends January 31st). Go check out Rocksbox and don’t miss out – You’re going to love love love it!
