Juicing before the Holidays

IMG_0094The Holidays are sneaking up on us this year, and to get ready for all of the crazy eating involved in the next month I decided to do a little juicing. I figured it would be a good idea to cleanse my body before I destroy it again with all of the carbs, sugars and deliciousness the Holidays are going to bring.  Jus by Julie is a super easy and delicious way to cleanse.

I received all the juices at my door perfectly packed and ready to go. Not only did I receive all the juices for the day but also some delicious booster shoots to get you really going and cleansing. Are they delicious? Some yes, some not so much…it is a cleanse after all! My favorite (and I’m sure I’m not alone in this) was the Island Coconut…YUM YUM YUM! It was so delicious I wish I could have it everyday!

I’m not a huge juicing person by any means, I am more of the mentality of just always trying to eat healthy. However, with the holidays quickly approaching I just needed something to make me feel a little less guilty when I’m indulging on a delicious pumpkin pie! hehe.

Leather Season

Yes yes yes! It’s leather jacket season and since I’m ultra obsessed with leather, faux leather, leather jackets, leather pants, leathers tops, leather anything…I couldn’t be more excited! Except for one little detail…I live in Florida and its 85 degrees today. Ugh.  However, in the spirit of the season I put this look together with this fun black and white leather jacket from Black Swan and paired it with this super cute faux leather clutch from LeMotto.

Flare for Fall

So this season there are a lot of awesome trends, but one that is on an all time high is the 70’s look.  I love the seventies, hippie vibe, I think its super cool and can make any girl wearing it look like she knows a thing or two about whats in style right now.  These flare jeans from True Religion are undoubtedly the most comfortable and stylish pair of jeans that are currently in my closet – and when I say comfortable….I’m talking REAL comfortable!! Like I can wear them all day, in a 10 hour plane fight and then out for night of dancing and they are still comfortable! Not that I would do all that in the same pair of jeans….yuck! But you get the point, they are super amazing. Oh, and not to mention you’ll look like you have mile long legs ala Taylor Swift in them.

Poncho Season with Old Navy

Who doesn’t love a good poncho?! I obsess over them this time of the year, they are a super easy ‘just throw it on’ piece that will instantly make your outfit look super stylish. Plus, for the Florida Fall/Winter this is an item I’ll be wearing for months.  Now add up all those amazing poncho benefits with the fact that Old Navy has super fashionable ones starting at $24 and you have a winner in my book!

I partnered up with Old Navy to show you guys the perfect Fall look featuring their ponchos. I picked this super versatile Black Plaid poncho since it’s totally something I’ll be wearing a lot this season and the color combo makes it for a perfect day or night piece.  I was also obsessed with the Red Plaid combo and the Tan Combo…they are going to be my next purchase for sure!

I paired the poncho with their Mid-Rise Rockstar Cords in the color “Getting Figgy With It”, which is a dark burgundy color that you’ll be seeing everywhere this season. It’s super in style right now for Fall, and you can’t go wrong for only $17!!  I also added a simple long sleeve tee, which was $7 and a MUST have for Fall/Winter which is a great Fedora…and this one was only $19.

Get to Know Laura Brown, Executive Editor of Harper’s Bazaar

If you don’t know who Laura Brown is, then you are not a lover of Fashion – that’s for sure! As an icon to the modern woman, Laura has revolutionized Harper’s Bazaar and brought her edgy personality into the magazine, creating the most memorable and beautiful covers the magazine has ever produced. I was beyond excited to interview her, especially because when growing up, being someone like Laura Brown was my ultimate dream!

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous to interview such a powerful person in the fashion industry.  You never know how someone in her position would feel about taking time out of her busy NYFW day to talk to a blogger from Orlando, FL.  Well, let me tell you, the moment I got on the phone with her I felt comfortable. She was funny, engaging, interested and it honestly felt like I was sitting at a bar talking to a friend. I wish I was sitting at bar talking to her! Maybe someday!

A: How did you get into the Fashion Industry?

LB: I’ve always had all the magazines in Australia, we used to get them three months late, so I would just pore all over them. I was just feeling entranced by it, something that was a land beyond what I knew, and I wanted to be part of it. I never wanted to do anything else. I studied journalism in college and then I got my first job in a magazine in Australia.

A: Working at Harper’s Bazaar, what was the most memorable cover you produced?

LB: Rihanna and the shark. I’ve always loved that image of Steven Spielberg in the set of jaws. I always loved something that’s iconic and famous or mythologized. We built a really cheesy shark in NYC, drove it down to Tampa and shot it in an aquarium. When we thought about it I knew it was going to be a badass cover. It’s even become a meme now! That’s my favorite one I’ve ever done.

A: What is your biggest source of inspiration when producing a cover?

LB: Depends on the person. Depends who we are shooting. If it’s someone more classic we might want to punk them up, and if it’s someone more punky we might want to make them more classic.  It comes from the girl first. We were going to shoot Emilia Clarke, and Valentino had a beautiful Dragon Gown, so I knew the direction to go. It could also be something that’s going on in pop culture, or something more classic.  It really depends on who is feeling crazier in the staff, which is normally me!

A: Fashion week just ended. Was there a collection that just blew you away?

LB: I loved Rodarte! I thought it was great, they do really good sparkly stuff and they had these sparkly pants that are really great. They are a little more artsy.  I loved how Alexander Wang went back to his street stuff. That’s exactly his strength, so it was great.

A: If you had to wear one designer for the rest of your life. Who would you pick?

LB: OMG! For the rest of my life?! Isabel Marant, everything she does is cool! She has the best summer dresses ever and I have a million of them. She just has great clothes for girls! I would say also Dior, but for literally just living my life I’d say Isabel Marant for sure.

A: What would you say will be the most essential item to have this Fall season?

LB: A really great over the knee boot that you can wear with a pair of skinny jeans. It just pulls everything together. I think it makes a longer dress or a below the knee dress look so slick. I think it really just pulls it together.

A: What is a must have item every fashionista should splurge on?

LB: A Chanel bag. You will never regret owning a Chanel bag. They never go out of style, it’s a wonderful piece.

A: What is the go to item in your closet?

LB: Three pieces of Acne Studio Jeans that are in the exact same style but three different colors. They are from their Shore line, they are slightly high-waisted, sort of straight legged and a little bit cropped. (Read more about Laura Brown’s love for these jeans)

A: What is your go to beauty product or item?

LB: Shani Darden Retinol Reform. She’s the greatest facialist ever, Jessica Alba introduced me to her and her retinol reform. It’s done wonders for my skin.

A: What advice would you give to someone trying to make it in the fashion industry?

LB: Intern. Intern in every single field in fashion if you can.

A: What would you say is the biggest mistake people make when trying to get into the fashion industry?

LB: I don’t like excessive entitlement, “I deserve this”, “how come I can’t go to the photo shoot?”, this and that. It drove me crazy one time a designer sent me a dress and an intern said, “OMG you are so lucky”, and I said, “I’ve been in the industry for 20 years, maybe I can get a dress!” So I do think entitlement issues are a problem. I like smart people who aren’t afraid of doing the job.

Thank you Laura for taking your time to talk to me!

In honor of Valentina, here’s one of my favorite videos of Laura with Elmo!

Runway to Hope Ferragamo Finale

Mall at Millenia Fashion Week ended a few weeks ago and I wanted to share with you some of the pictures from the shows as well as my interview with none other than Laura Brown, Executive Editor of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

Orlando doesn’t have many fashion events throughout the year, so when Millenia Fashion Week rolls around the whole city gets excited and can’t wait for the all the fashion fun to begin!  Myself and all the beautiful blogger babes here in Orlando had a blast going to as many events as we could and enjoying all of the beautiful Fall Fashion.

During Millenia Fashion Week there are several shows that include this years Fall Trends, however the most memorable and special show during the week is the Runway to Hope fashion show and brunch.  Runway To Hope has as their mission to provide direct support and aid to Central Florida children and their families impacted by pediatric cancer. This year, Laura Brown was the host of the show and I had the pleasure of interview her and asking some super fashionable questions!

Spring to Fall Floral Dress

Hi October and welcome Fall! So excited for this time of the year and how amazing the Florida weather can get. I’ve been so busy with V. lately and all these events here in Orlando that it’s been tough to set time aside to post looks here on the blog.  However, its great to stay busy, especially because I’m not a sit at home and do nothing personality.

I’m loving this lady like look, it’s not 100% my style or something I would usually wear, but I felt so chic and fancy in it.  I jazzed it up by adding a leather jacket over it, which I felt really brought the look into Fall. I honestly feel you can do this to a lot of your summer/spring dresses or tops…by adding a little leather to your look, especially a jacket it almost always makes it a super acceptable look for Fall.
