Get to Know Laura Brown, Executive Editor of Harper’s Bazaar

If you don’t know who Laura Brown is, then you are not a lover of Fashion – that’s for sure! As an icon to the modern woman, Laura has revolutionized Harper’s Bazaar and brought her edgy personality into the magazine, creating the most memorable and beautiful covers the magazine has ever produced. I was beyond excited to interview her, especially because when growing up, being someone like Laura Brown was my ultimate dream!

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous to interview such a powerful person in the fashion industry.  You never know how someone in her position would feel about taking time out of her busy NYFW day to talk to a blogger from Orlando, FL.  Well, let me tell you, the moment I got on the phone with her I felt comfortable. She was funny, engaging, interested and it honestly felt like I was sitting at a bar talking to a friend. I wish I was sitting at bar talking to her! Maybe someday!

A: How did you get into the Fashion Industry?

LB: I’ve always had all the magazines in Australia, we used to get them three months late, so I would just pore all over them. I was just feeling entranced by it, something that was a land beyond what I knew, and I wanted to be part of it. I never wanted to do anything else. I studied journalism in college and then I got my first job in a magazine in Australia.

A: Working at Harper’s Bazaar, what was the most memorable cover you produced?

LB: Rihanna and the shark. I’ve always loved that image of Steven Spielberg in the set of jaws. I always loved something that’s iconic and famous or mythologized. We built a really cheesy shark in NYC, drove it down to Tampa and shot it in an aquarium. When we thought about it I knew it was going to be a badass cover. It’s even become a meme now! That’s my favorite one I’ve ever done.

A: What is your biggest source of inspiration when producing a cover?

LB: Depends on the person. Depends who we are shooting. If it’s someone more classic we might want to punk them up, and if it’s someone more punky we might want to make them more classic.  It comes from the girl first. We were going to shoot Emilia Clarke, and Valentino had a beautiful Dragon Gown, so I knew the direction to go. It could also be something that’s going on in pop culture, or something more classic.  It really depends on who is feeling crazier in the staff, which is normally me!

A: Fashion week just ended. Was there a collection that just blew you away?

LB: I loved Rodarte! I thought it was great, they do really good sparkly stuff and they had these sparkly pants that are really great. They are a little more artsy.  I loved how Alexander Wang went back to his street stuff. That’s exactly his strength, so it was great.

A: If you had to wear one designer for the rest of your life. Who would you pick?

LB: OMG! For the rest of my life?! Isabel Marant, everything she does is cool! She has the best summer dresses ever and I have a million of them. She just has great clothes for girls! I would say also Dior, but for literally just living my life I’d say Isabel Marant for sure.

A: What would you say will be the most essential item to have this Fall season?

LB: A really great over the knee boot that you can wear with a pair of skinny jeans. It just pulls everything together. I think it makes a longer dress or a below the knee dress look so slick. I think it really just pulls it together.

A: What is a must have item every fashionista should splurge on?

LB: A Chanel bag. You will never regret owning a Chanel bag. They never go out of style, it’s a wonderful piece.

A: What is the go to item in your closet?

LB: Three pieces of Acne Studio Jeans that are in the exact same style but three different colors. They are from their Shore line, they are slightly high-waisted, sort of straight legged and a little bit cropped. (Read more about Laura Brown’s love for these jeans)

A: What is your go to beauty product or item?

LB: Shani Darden Retinol Reform. She’s the greatest facialist ever, Jessica Alba introduced me to her and her retinol reform. It’s done wonders for my skin.

A: What advice would you give to someone trying to make it in the fashion industry?

LB: Intern. Intern in every single field in fashion if you can.

A: What would you say is the biggest mistake people make when trying to get into the fashion industry?

LB: I don’t like excessive entitlement, “I deserve this”, “how come I can’t go to the photo shoot?”, this and that. It drove me crazy one time a designer sent me a dress and an intern said, “OMG you are so lucky”, and I said, “I’ve been in the industry for 20 years, maybe I can get a dress!” So I do think entitlement issues are a problem. I like smart people who aren’t afraid of doing the job.

Thank you Laura for taking your time to talk to me!

Mall At Millenia Fashion Week 2015

Runway to Hope Ferragamo Finale

Mall at Millenia Fashion Week ended a few weeks ago and I wanted to share with you some of the pictures from the shows as well as my interview with none other than Laura Brown, Executive Editor of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

Orlando doesn’t have many fashion events throughout the year, so when Millenia Fashion Week rolls around the whole city gets excited and can’t wait for the all the fashion fun to begin!  Myself and all the beautiful blogger babes here in Orlando had a blast going to as many events as we could and enjoying all of the beautiful Fall Fashion.

This year, Laura Brown was the host of the show and I had the pleasure of interview her and asking some super fashionable questions!

Spring to Fall Floral Dress

Hi October and welcome Fall! So excited for this time of the year and how amazing the Florida weather can get. I’ve been so busy with V. lately and all these events here in Orlando that it’s been tough to set time aside to post looks here on the blog.  However, its great to stay busy, especially because I’m not a sit at home and do nothing personality.

I’m loving this lady like look, it’s not 100% my style or something I would usually wear, but I felt so chic and fancy in it.  I jazzed it up by adding a leather jacket over it, which I felt really brought the look into Fall. I honestly feel you can do this to a lot of your summer/spring dresses or tops…by adding a little leather to your look, especially a jacket it almost always makes it a super acceptable look for Fall.

Get to Know – Cosatto Supa Stroller

Happy Wednesday loves. Once in a while I love to share with you guys some of my favorite things for Valentina. Being a new mom I know how hard it is to decide what products to buy and what you even really need.  Strollers were always a no brainer for me, I knew right away what stroller I wanted for V. However, my main pick (which I LOVE), isn’t the most versatile stroller for a quick trip somewhere. Lets put it this way whether you have a Bugaboo, a Stokke or any other super fancy stroller….you’ll need a great “throw it in the car and to go to the  park” stroller.  Trust me! And when it comes to that kind of versatility my all time favorite is the Cosatto Supa Strollers.
DSC_0436 DSC_0425 DSC_0397 DSC_0375 DSC_0404 DSC_0411 DSC_0431 DSC_0432DSC_0417DSC_0376 DSC_0430DSC_0394DSC_0392

Cosatto Supa Strollers are not only super lightweight, versatile, with great compartments and fit anywhere… but the best part for me is all the super fun and exciting patterns that they come in.  Why have a boring stroller when you can have one with an awesome pattern?!  The strollers come in the following patters: Pixelate (one I currently have), Cuddle MonsterFlamingo FlingPoppidelic (dying over this one!), Bow HowHipstar and Firebird. I’m so in love with them…I think the Poppidelic is on my next purchase list. I just love it!!

Black and Fringe

So today is the last day of NY Fashion Week, and even though I had major major major FOMO this entire past week for not attending this year, I wanted to do little look on the blog on what I would totally wear around NYC had I gone to fashion week.  This is a super simple look, nothing crazy at all, but to me I feel so NY when I wear it.  The muted colors, with a hint of fun from my bag and shoes make this a simple look, yet it gives you a little interest and something to look at. Best part of this look? The jeans are on sale and shoes are only $14!! Yes, that’s it, and with fringe being a huge trend for Fall how could you not get it?! You’re welcome. :)

Falling for Vests

This Fall I’m falling for vests! I’m sure you all have heard about the 3 piece rule when it comes to outfits.  Adding a third piece, such as a  jacket, vest or even a belt to a plain look can immediately make you look more put together. I personally love a good vest as a 3rd piece. Living in Florida a jacket or blazer might be too heavy at times, so nothing better then a vest.  This little guy I scored from Forever21 was a perfect color to transition into Fall and even carry over into Winter. An effortless look, that’s for sure!

Summer Best

revolve clothing, white summer dress, white plunge dress, long white dress, bobi dress, shop prima donna, ananda saba, silver necklace, super fashionable blog

Summer is sadly coming to an end, and since I’m not a believer in the rule that you can’t wear white after Labor Day….I’m showing my favorite  white dress of the summer. Plus, I guarantee you I’ll be posting another white dress on the blog soon. :)  After all I live in Florida and its summer here till October!

Anywho, I absolutely loved wearing this dress during the summer and it’s the kind of dress that will always be in style for many summers to come.  I can assure you I will be wearing it if you catch me at a beach spot somewhere or during a super hot day.

Now, can we talk about this necklace?! I LOVE this necklace. I’ve worn it a million times this summer and will 100% continue to wear it during Fall/Winter season.  This super chunky silver necklace look goes with anything really, but I love wearing it with neutral colors like black, white and tan….and obviously no patters please. This necklace is a huge statement piece, so you don’t want to overdo your look by placing it over a strong pattern.

Solutions Bridal Real Woman Campaign

solutions bridal, wedding gowns, orlando wedding shops, orlando wedding, ananda saba, super fashionable

A few months ago I had the extreme honor and pleasure of teaming up with Orlando’s biggest and most fabulous bridal salon for a super fun photo shoot! The Solution Bridal girls entered my life a few year ago when I was planning my own wedding. I feel in love with a beautiful gown there from Kenneth Pool and feel in love with the entire SB team.  Ever since then the girls have a special place in my heart and I always get excited to see them.  So when the opportunity presented itself to team up with them along with some other amazing Orlando bloggers and professional, I jumped at it! I mean, on top of it all I was going to get to play bride again!!! DREAM.

The results are these amazing pictures taken by Gian Carlo Photography.  I got to wear a gorgeous gown by Ines Di Santo, it was super different then my wedding gown as I opted for something more classical for my own day….so to wear something super different made it so fun! The entire day was a blast and I can’t wait to do it again.
